On May 1, 2023, the Kappa Chapter welcomed Professor Amy Guevara as a Friend of the Arts! Professor Guevara is a voice teacher, academic advisor, and this semester, is the director of the Opera Scenes workshop. We are ecstatic to welcome Amy Guevara into SAI for her work around the Glenn Korff School of Music and the Lincoln community!

Soprano Amy Guevara – praised by Opera News for “bringing sunny passion to Carmela” in Manuel de Falla’s La Vida Breve – has been heard on opera, concert, and recital stages throughout the United States and abroad. Favorite roles include Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), the Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors), Roselinde (Die Fledermaus), Vanessa (Vanessa), Lucy (The Telephone) and Monica (The Medium). Guevara has sung with Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia under the baton of John Jacob Niles and has also performed with Victorian Lyric Opera, Mesa Light Opera, Lyric Opera Theatre, Opera in the Ozarks and Indiana Opera Theatre. Recital and concert appearances include the Phoenix Symphony (in a select choir for Bach’s St. John’s Passion), the Redding Performing Arts Society, Reston Performing Arts, and the Dumbarton Recital Series in Washington DC.
Guevara is an Instructor of Voice at University of Nebraska Lincoln, as well as an adjunct professor of voice at Doane University and Nebraska Wesleyan University in Voice. Her responsibilities have included teaching Applied Voice, Diction, Music Appreciation as well as preparing students for degree recitals and performances. Previously, she has taught at Concordia University in Voice. Guevara is well-respected for her teaching in numerous styles including classical, opera, and musical theatre, and as a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, her students have won numerous awards and honorable mentions. Upon graduation, Guevara’s students have moved on to sing with off-Broadway productions, Walt Disney World, the Omaha Playhouse, and other venues, as well as becoming teachers or pursuing graduate studies.
Guevara earned her Master of Music from Arizona State University in Opera and her Bachelor of Music in Voice with Dance and Theatre minors from Butler University. Teachers and mentors have included Darleen Kliewer-Britton, Ariel Bybee, Jean Michelle Charbonnet, Patricia Wulf, Gillian Cookson, Tom Reilly, and Valerie Trujillo.
