HISTORY

The Kappa Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota was chartered on March 17, 1915 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Over the past 108 years, the chapter has proudly served the musical needs of the Lincoln, NE area. Kappa Chapter currently resides in the Xi A province and Region III of Sigma Alpha Iota.

Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity was founded on June 12, 1903 at the University School of Music in Ann Arbor, Michigan (now part of the University of Michigan). Seven strong women came together to form this organization, and their names were: Elizabeth Campbell, Frances Caspari, Minnie Davis Sherrill, Leila Farlin Laughlin, Nora Crane Hunt, Georgina Potts, and Mary Storrs Andersen. Today, there are over 300 SAI chapters.
